Q co-enzyme 10, Periodontitis (Gum Disease), Good Health

If there was a safe, natural ‘elixir of youth’ would you take it? Have you ever seen the movie “Highlander”? (I’d only recommend the first in the series). It certainly puts one off Immortality, but if one could live a bigger fraction of life in a more fit healthy quality state wouldn’t you choose to? I would! I’ve frequently joked that it isn’t my “use by” date I’m concerned about, but rather my “best before”! We know so much of what we should do to promote our health… yes we do like: no smoking, naughty things in moderation, healthy diet, exercise regularly…and think positive thoughts. Not always easy in our day to day bustle juggling work and family commitments. Surely some educated researched help is JUST FINE!
Most of us want to keep our teeth, look and feel good for our age, be happy and smile regularly. I’m a dentist with over 25 years’ experience and smiles are just my thing. Modern dentistry has been long striving, and succeeding in saving teeth and avoiding dentures… woohoo! Preventative and early intervention in practice has been a long-held focus for me. So what am I leading to? Two things have excited me in recent research. Firstly, a supplement called Q co-enzyme 10, and secondly more and more significant discovery of the benefits of good bacteria in our digestive tracts. I’d like to chat to you about Q co-enzyme 10 today.
To know about Q co-enzyme 10 puts you in a well- informed minority!

WHAT IS Q CO-ENZYME 10:
A powerful antioxidant and essential coenzyme needed in the energy production of every cell. It is also known as Ubiquinone, Ubidecarenone, coQ-10, Q co 10, Q-10. In the final production of energy by our cells ATP is produced and used. Our body stores enough ATP for 5 to 8 minutes of strenuous action. To make more ATP Q co-enzyme 10 is required. Q co-enzyme 10 is needed and present in every cell of our bodies so you can see how taking it as a supplement may help. ). IT IS ALWAYS BEST TO PLEASE CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE TAKING A NEW SUPPLEMENT TO ENSURE IT IS SAFE FOR YOU! ESPECIALLY DO NOT TAKE IT AS A SUPPLEMENT IF YOU ARE PREGNANT, A CHILD, HAVE LOW BLOOD PRESSURE, NOR IF TAKING ANY MEDICATIONS WITHOUT FIRST CONSULTING YOUR DOCTOR (ESPECIALLY IF THE MEDICATION YOU TAKE IS FOR HIGH OR LOW BLOOD PRESSURE, BLOOD THINNING, CANCER OR A HEART CONDITION). After the age of 35 our natural ability to obtain Q co-enzyme 10 from food plummets. Hence it is valuable to take as a supplement. Examples of foods containing Q co-enzyme 10 include oily fish such as Mackerel, Broccoli, Liver and Heart offal. Over cooking will reduce the food’s level, especially frying and boiling.

PERIODONTITIS (GUM DISEASE) TREATMENT
Gum biopsies have revealed that there are nonideal levels of Q co-enzyme 10 in 60-90% of patients with Periodontitis (Gum Disease). This suggests that supplementing Q co-enzyme 10 may play an important role in treating Periodontitis. Other essential treatment includes the measuring and monitoring of the gum and tissue levels regularly, and the cleaning off of calculus (mineralised bacteria) regularly too. You just can’t clean it off yourself… those regular dental examinations and cleans are so important if you want to keep your teeth!

SIGNS OF PERIODONTITIS (GUM DISEASE)
Gums bleeding upon brushing and flossing are a classic first sign of this disease. Don’t wait until your teeth are wiggly or mobile… then it’s often too late. Other signs are:
Bad persistent breath (Halitosis)
Red swollen “puffy” Gums
Sensitive teeth
Pain whilst chewing
Teeth looking “longer” (actually the gums are receding).

IF YOU HAVE ANY OF THESE SIGNS IT’S TIME TO SEE THE DENTIST!

WHAT IF I WANT TO TAKE Q co-enzyme 10?
